CMajor - B.E.T.
CMajor - B.E.T.
2010, CMajor
CMajor is a New York City-based pianist who combines classical training and pop sensibility to create a pleasing blend of New Age-style pop. With three EPs/Albums under her belt, CMajor pursues the Indie path while playing both as a solo artist and with her band. CMajor’s 2nd EP, B.E.T., is a solid recorded sample of CMajor’s musical style.
B.E.T. opens with "Butterfly Wish", a simplistic but pretty piano tune that plays on the edges of Michael Hedges without approaching his flexibility or panache. "End Of The World" has a bit more quiet pizzazz, with a melody line that seems to speak to the listener. You could imagine the end of the world here being an Ocean, and a young soul standing on the shore dreaming about what lay beyond the distant, shimmering horizon. CMajor is very expressive here at times and imbues the song with a special life. "That's Alright" is CMajor's goodnight message, a lithe new age/pop blend with real movement and a theme that recurs throughout.
B.E.T. is a solid effort from CMajor, although the material here nearly begs to be fleshed out with more instrumentation, vocals, etc. Competent piano play and melodies distinctive enough to be remembered are a solid platform from which to grow.
